I found indoor storage for my roadrace car so garage space was available to start on my Willys. First order of business was pressure washing everything out that might want to kill me. After I got the front end sheet metal removed I cut the firewall until the motor fit and the headers cleared the steering box. Once I figured that out I fabbed some motor mounts and a trans mount/x-brace. Now that its all fabbed and tacked I'll remove everything to finish weld. No time frame in mind, just working on it when I'm not working on my coupe or my house or any other number of projects I got myself into. And it got an engine crate out of my way and a T5 out of the foyer. The latter made my wife happy.
That looks like either an 8BA or a 1CM with a mixture of both parts. Water pumps, intake and carb are 51 Merc.
No, I've been working on my coupe hoping it will move under it's own power soon. I need to post an update over there.
Finally working on this again. Goal is run, stop and steer and take it to the Bellefontaine Hillclimb instead of my Camaro. Chassis is a complete, plumbed roller Firewall is ready for finish welding, body is stripped and floor is Ospho coated top and bottom, it's getting sprayed with Raptor Liner The hillclimb is in 2 weeks so it's a tall order. I'm on day 9 of 11 days off work, I probably should rest at least one of them. Once this is together the coupe is coming back over.
Hopefully it has a 4" crank. Merc heads on a 3 3/4" crank 8ba lowers the compression. Best option for stock Ford heads would be EAB's with or without a 4" crank. JMO
I've been working on the Willys off and on between house and other projects. Getting close to wiring and fire up. hanging from the hoist so I could lay under it and spray epoxy primer and Raptor Liner I mixed up some red oxide and hot rod black primers to get something close to Kondar. Putting the body back on the frame alone was a real day at the beach More Progress. Next project is cleaning up the hood and front fenders so they can be fitted and bolted on. Right now the goal is move under it's own power, bodywork will come later. Once this will move without me pushing it, the coupe will get the same treatment.
Well it stops, steers and runs briefly due to no coolant. I'm waiting for a piece of tubing so I can modify the outlets on the radiator. The sheetmetal is all hung and bodywork will come at a later date. Everything is wired, fused and run to termination points. The glove box doors give access to the fuse/relay panel and master cylinders and are held in place with a single Dzus fastener. Engine compartment is relatively together, a little tidying up will come later. I hope to have the cooling system buttoned up this week and get the 40 in the garage to make it run, stop.and steer. I've got storage for my roadrace car again so nothing will have to sit out in the weather.
Lol, that was the result of the replacement cylinder having a smaller hole than the original, and a short, useless SnapOn breaker bar.
The wheels and tires I had on were from my 40 Ford coupe. I decided they needed to go back on it. I had 15" Torque Thrusts I had taken off my Camaro, I used the 15x8s off the rear and bought 15x6s and tires for the front. The rear tires are pretty thin and will get replaced with white letter in at some point in the future. I got the fuel and cooling systems buttoned up. The stock distributor needed a lot of work, so I opted for a Mallory Unilite. As soon as Ohio isn't a frozen hellscape, I'll get it tuned. It has moved in and out of the garage under it's own power, so it does run, stop and steer.
I've been working on it solid for the last couple weeks to get it to the point of being drivable because I made a wise ass remark about taking it to the hillclimb. Now I'm being held to it. It's probably going to be slow and handle like a nun carrying a mattress, but I'm just going to have fun and hang out. I'll probably get lumped in with muscle cars or fast foreign shit anyway. I had to make lower sections for both rear fenders. It was like welding kleenex because the metal is do thin. It'll get leaded at some point in the future. I got the rear firewall made and everything in the trunk secured. And I got the front and rear glass installed. I've roped in windshields alone before, easy when it's from the outside in. But theses go in from the inside and fit really tight, so it was a 2 man 1 hour job. I still have some loose ends to take care of, but for the most part, its hillclimb ready.
