I say go with the deluxe. Only recently has anyone wanted a '38 deluxe or '39 standard Ford. In the sixties & seventies you couldn't give one away. Times sure change!

One of the nicest cars on the HAMB is Ryans 38 deluxe. It's essentially the same as the 39 standard.

I've got to admit, I really like the 39 DeLuxe (sorry Ryan). The headlights, the grille, it all works... ET Gregorie's masterpiece if you ask me- I like them better than the 40's too! Simple, clean, uncluttered.
You seen Tudor sedans all over, but the coupes are rare birds these days.
Get it, or I want it!!!

40's have UGLY grilles/headlights/taillights in my opinion...

I think the '38 Deluxe and '39 Standard are WAY better looking..!!!
    grilles, hoods, head/tail-lights...'38 trunks even...

that green '39 Deluxe looks 'ok', good headlights,
but I think the '39 Standard has more 'style'...
(just ditch the skinny stainless trim on the front end...)

I love the general body shape of all of them though...
the side profile is the best..!!!
(sometimes they CAN look good chopped, but not always...)
I'm keeping my '38 Deluxe not chopped...

    Here's a pic of a '39 Standard for you...

Buy them both........why choose ? [IMG]

If only one is the way it has to be, then the DeLuxe.

I like 39's but do not like the windshield in them. I prefer the sealed up 40 style. Just me......

  13. Thats a tough choice. The DeLuxe has a refined look but the Standard is different enough too be cool these days.
Personaly the 40 Deluxe does it for me but i like the looks of a 39 Deluxe quite a bit, But I think Ryans car kicks *** too.
Like I said to begin with Tough choice [IMG] [IMG]

When I was looking for my car - I really wanted a 39 Deluxe, but "settled" for a 40 Standard - I think the 39 has nicer headlights. That's not to say I don't like my 40! But between a 39 Std/Dlx, I'd take the Dlx anyday! My $.02

    Boones,
Do what ever it takes to buy both. Sell the standard for some ungodly sum of money on Ebay and finish off the Delux. You'll then have one of the most beautiful cars ever produced IMHO.

Lownrusty - I got a 39 standard hood if you need one. Lets see that makes me think you should get the standard. Ah what the hell get them both!

Standard sets it apart from the forty. It also has the best extras in this purchas, extra frame, louvered hood and extra hood sides all chromed garnish mouldings. I'm thinking standard !

The '39 Deluxe is pretty (better than either '40 IMHO) but the '38 Deluxe and '39 Standard just scream 'SHINE RUNNER in these parts.

Every one I see I expect to see a half dozen cases of Mason jars in the trunk.

    Love 'em.

39 DeLuxe is one of Henry's prettiest designs, ever. All the lines go together and the headlights and grille compliment those graceful lines, IMHO...
....[in Jerry Seinfelt voice] not that there's anything wrong with the 39 standard.

Add my vote for the Deluxe.

  21. None O my bussiness -But I would pick the standard....that seperates ya from the 40 ford look.I like em both but whats wrong with a little variation. I had a 39 std back in mid 70's and wasnt worth too much then,But the tables have turned now.In my opinion the standard looks smaller /older?I don't know- I just like em. [IMG]

If it is a quick fix, then you are driving, dont make much difference.
    But....
If it is going to be a long term project, better go with the one that you really like.

With a quickie, you could sell if you grow tired of it.

But a long term project, better go with the one you can commit to.

That would be a hard choice for me. I've always wanted a '38 cause they're different, but then again, I never thought I would get the chance to buy a '39 deluxe as they are usually sky high. Maybe spend some time on Carnut.com and take in all the photos of both years.

I think it depends on what direction you want to take the car, and if you plan on running the front bumper.

I like the deluxe if it's going to be more of a cl***y car with all new chrome and a front bumper.

I like the standard if it's going to be more of a fast hot rod or g***er, no bumper, it's got meaner look.

It doesn't appear that you are particularly invested either way. Either car makes a fine hot rod, but keep in mind that the Deluxe has better parts availability and resale value. The Standard, on the other hand, is quite a bit more unusual. As a '40 Ford guy, I think I lean toward the Deluxe.

As a 39 deluxe owner I like the front clip on the deluxe and the rear bustle and trunk of the 38. Someday I want to do a combo like that.
