Hi, I'm a little confused about my coupe's hood and ornament and I'm sure you guys can help me on that. Here's a picture of the hood and ornament as it is now on my car:

As you can see, the ornament is 40 Standard. Obviously the hood is not a 39 Deluxe. My question is now what differences are between a 39 dlx hood and a 40 std one? Do they have different shapes? Would the 39 dlx trim fit on this hood or do I have to go for 40 std trim? Is the radius for the ornament different? Maybe someone can post some pictures that clearly state the differences if there's any.

    Thanks a lot,
    Al

They are essentially the same. A '39 hood will have holes for the 2 belt line trim pieces on each side. What you have can be made to work.

Hood ornament should interchange between '39 de luxe and '40 std. You may have to drill holes for the hood 'whiskers', but that should be about it. Check it out www.bobdrake.com

When you get to teh front end of a 39, 40 Ford, things get confusing pretty quick. Check out www.bobdrake.com he has nice pics of all the stuff you need. Quite a learning experience..

Nice coupe, by the way.. -Abone.

Ah, now that was a quick one. Thanks guys, that's what I wanted to hear, so now I can go for the 39 dlx look.
Cause someone said the ornament radius might be different and I didnt have all pieces at hand to check.

    Thanks,
    Al

Here's my '39 DeLuxe. It has the '39 DeLuxe hood and trim but doesnt seem to work quite right with the current '40 Standard grille I have. (I'm looking for a '39 Deluxe grille if anybody has one). You might just need to change the opener handle and the chrome peak. I recently got my trim parts back from plating them and haven't reinstalled them yet so I don't have a picture. Good looking car you have! :) Mike

  7. Here's my '40 Standard Coupe with a '39 Deluxe grille. It is also a '39 Hood and now has a '39 hood latch.

Besides having 2 lines of stainless on the sides the 39 hood is about 1/2" or so shorter, so that lower trim will flow into the grill. If you use a 40 hood on a 39 it will meet the face of the 39 grill with no room for the trim. I have run both on my coupe prefer to stay with same year hood /grill combo.

Now that I look at it closely, you are absolutely right - I see the recess in the grille center bar on the '39 grille. My coupe is a '40 standard. Gotta love the HAMB where you learn something new every day.:)
