39 ford brakes?

    the front brakes off a 39/40 4 door Ford. are they worth using on a highboy?

    I was confused at first by the body comment.

    anyhow yes.

    if they are 40's they should have the regular 5x5 1/2
    bolt pattern
    if they are the 39's they would have the wide five pattern.
    still usable but not as many wheel options, just the 36-39
    ford wheels, I like them but most people don't run them.

    if they are 39' you can swap on later drums for the 5x5 1/2
    pattern.

    Yes why not?
    Its more or less the same as type the 46 brakes.
    Nowadays everyone goes to the F1/Lincoln type that is a better construction.

    But the old type has worked for decades, And in a light Highboy they would work ok.

    I'll be using juice '40 brakes with wide 5 '39 drums on my mod. They oughta be good enough. I think mine will be lighter than a highboy though, so I'm not worried about poor stopping capabilities.
