Technical 39 Ford Brakes

    Best brake cylinder ***embly lube to use?
    Where can I locate related torque specifications for brakes, axles, and suspensions?
    (All I can find is engine related.)

    Use DOT 3 brake fluid or red rubber grease (best choice). Silicone brake lube works too.
    Avoid petroleum grease—it damages rubber seals.
    Get a 1938–39 Ford shop manual or a Motors Auto Repair Manual (1939–42). Also check Early Ford V8 Club resources.
    Rear axle nut: 200–220 ft-lbs
    Backing plate bolts: 30–35 ft-lbs
    Leaf spring U-bolts: 45–60 ft-lbs
    Front spindle: tighten then back off (no fixed torque)
