I have a chance to buy an old Ford pickup I found in a barn. It has the 40 style front end, but the owner says it is a 39 and is titled as a 39. Did any 39 pickups come with the 40 style front end?
I had a Ford PU titled as a '39 but with a '40 grille back in the late 1960's. It had been hot rodded a couple of times when I got it. Not sure when the grille was installed.
Also '39 has the gauges in two round clustes, '40-'47 has a rectangular instrument cluster like a '40 Standard car. '38-'39 cab has 3-rib beltline stamping on the doors. '40 firewall is flat, '39 is stepped. '39 has the headlight switch in the center of the steering wheel, long rod that goes through the hollow steering shaft operates the actual switch that attaches to the bottom of the steering box. '40 has a modern type switch with a knob on the dash.
Theres a guy here on the HAMB who has been driving a 39 for many years and after it hit a tree, he put a 40 cab and front fenders on it and kept going
