That one was actually a 29 Packard phaeton instrument panel. I was in the zone to grain so I started mine...

Wood grain is absolutely perfect, nice job. I love the satin look...resembled hand rubbed wood...very realistic. Looks like fine furniture.
Glad to see you got your fan squared away also. Looks great also...much better than electric.

I'm getting fired up some thanks to y'all's input. Just spoke with Mrs Highlander and she likes the satin/semi-gloss look too. Again, I can always polish it should it look off in any way but I don't see that as an issue. I'm hoping this week settles down enough to make my move toward an artistic application that will blow your mind. No, no previews will be given as I plan to just mercilessly throw it up on a Fri art show, coming to a HAMB near you ;)
Oh yeah, she picked the gauges too. The same "Woodward Series" but in black with curved glass and the exact size of my dash. Hey, maybe I'll get out of the doghouse for trading the Model A pickup for this thing yet...

Love you work and the education with your 39 Standard, it looks wonderful. The rye sense of humor helps! Thanks. TEB

Bumping this up since I put myself in abuse mode and entered it in 'Rama Extreme (the basement). The floors are now done and I need to get the screws and seals in place. The trans tunnel needs a little more modification since I converted a 60 HP to the 85 type (the shifter hole's different). Robin and I dragged out all the upholstery so we could continue that as well. Big jobs ahead are the front suspension, wiring, finish the woodgrain, ignition, and exhaust system. If I don't finish it won't be for lack of effort.

Abuse like this is actually fun. Got the new Rebel harness in, laid out, upholstery is moving forward too. Had to swap out a 3 hole timing cover for a 2 hole to run the new Mallory that came with the car, got the new senders in for the New Vintage USA gauges. I really like em. Pictures? A few, been too busy slaggin away  but I remember now n then.

Interior progress, but needs some description. I chose to emulate the exterior trim design on the inside, in stainless, which involved some tricky bending and creative silver brazing. Worth the effort and I think will be a major focal point on the overall interior vibe.

Next time we do a tech week I'll show how we pulled this off. Other tasks out of the way, repaired the door trim for the driver's side, restored the original light switch and will wire it to work at the column/horn button like it was originally. Well that's a brief review, parts coming, the journey is getting more fun by the hour. Will do my best to keep this going and thanks for looking in.

The look of the hand brake lever took 79 years to develop. A couple coats of satin clear, done. Can't bring myself to change it.

More wiring today. My dear friend of many years does a stunning pro job on race cars and has wanted to get into a car with me for a long time. Today's that day. Film @ 11...

Got a lot of the engine area located, most of the vintage conduit in place, using the original metal harness cover on the firewall. It's getting there.
    IMG_20180120_151035702.jpg
Ran the light wires in the frame, exits in front of the engine.

More wiring done, ran all I needed for the sound system, put it up over the doors and back windows, down the A n B pillars as needed. It'll go in later after 'Rama but at least they're hidden away and ready. Got the rear seat done and covered but forgot to take pics. Tomorrow, I promise...

The engine bay is about complete with wiring and repair/resto. Got the wheel off and column out, the wheel is nasty, the column came out real nice. Can still see the part # clearly, especially since Luke cleaned it out real good. Polished the light switch "balls" at the top of the mast, also did the horn button. The perimeter will get painted to match the column.

The wheel had 35 cracks in the outer ring, all 3 spokes had several more. I opened all the cracks and beveled them, then sanded the whole surface with 80. For the heaviest of repair I used JB Kwik for strength and support. The rest is being filled and sanded using fast setting panel bond. Luke suggested that and it seems like the right material. Doesn't take the sting out of the job but it should hold up well and offer the strength and expansion ability to make it last. Once the repairs are all done and sanded I'll use my "trick" wheel painting schtick. With the right pearl and candy colors it should appear as a semi-translucent wheel casting. I've pulled it off on blue and several pale bone colored wheels. Fun stuff once we get there...

Tomorrow I'll finish the back of the wheel and between coats (takes over and hour to cure) get on to building the the last 3 interior panels. In the meantime we whipped up a stainless tube throttle rod.

Jocko... Your usual museum quality work abounds, so it's no surprise. I'm glued to your restoration on the steering wheel. Did you make an abrasive dowel tool for the finger lands? I'm ready to tackle mine on my '47 Sedan...

My friend Frank bought a '38 humpback tudor sedan 5 years ago. We adjusted the sheet metal (dove gray) and Frank found some N.O.S. stainless trim bars, one was a 'left' (I had to 'massage' it to make it a 'right'...)
The original exhaust manifolds were on his car, and the head pipes were 1-1/2" dia., everything else 1-3/4".
Strange, as it defied the dynamics laws! (my original 85 H.P. '36 three window had the same head pipe, 1-1/2"...)

Thanks Mike, not using a tool on the finger bumps. Just being easy with the DA, mini DA and hand sanding. I used rolled 80 for the 1st rough sanding. If you don't burn em down to far in the prep it's easy enough to keep it close to original shape. Tedious but not real hard. Ok, worse than tedious bit it's gotta be done.

Still slammin away at it. Got both door panels done and 1 rear qtr trim panel. Gonna look good in there I think. More wiring done too. 1 more serving on the steering wheel and it goes to paint. Here's the front and rear trim panels together. I'll update more pics as I go but this lil teaser works for now. The rear qtr trim stainless uses the window crank as a finish.

More trim work done, covered the last armrest, did the door trim panels above the window. I decided to do em in headliner cloth. The vinyl rising up to the roof doesn't look good to me. The garnish mldgs off set all of it nice. Bunch of inside wiring too, but again boring pics.
    The elements together...

Once all in the headliner will finish at the bottoms of the windows. It already does in the back, at the front of the rears, but the door would be the main matl all the way up. Doesn't look right to me. Like this (shagged from an image search):

I've ordered a coachlace for the windlace from LeBaron Bonney that compliments both materials and the wool carpets. Details, details...
