i have a 39 std with an 8ba, the p***enger side went on with no trouble, tried to put the drivers side on from the top and the bottom, but steering box interferes with the center tube, do i need to raise engine or grind on center tube? thanx.

    I've never installed a set,
but would like to on my 40.

There was a set though that i had seen that was installed on a 40,
and the flange(S) were either machined or ground to angle it down a bit,
bringing the whole header closer to the oil pan.
It was noticeable enough cause the original flanges are kinda thick.

a guy told me yesterday he put a set on his 39 with no clearence issues, but his engine is a 59, he thought the 49-53 engines were a tad wider, but has not confirmed it, guess its off to the hardware store for spacers.

I believe your supposed to shim the motor mounts on the 8ab. I have fentons on my 21bolt 38 flattie and they fit perfectly. Pretty tight though.

    Here's what speedway says...

Fenton™ headers fit most ch***is from 1937-53 with stock steering gear. Cast iron. Gaskets sold separately.

Application Note: These probably won't fit Model T or A due to narrow frame width, particularly on p***enger side. 1948 and older engines will require dipstick tube modifications. 1948-52 Ford F1 (1/2 ton) pick-ups will have interference with one bolt on the stock steering box. That bolt can usually be modified so that the headers can be used. The headers will probably not work in 3/4 ton or larger trucks 1948-52. 1942-48 Mercury cars will probably require shimming of the motor mount for steering.

i just installed a set on a 39...i had to grind on it to clear the steering box and put it in from the bottom with the steering turned all the way so i could snake it up in. the outlet points right at the stock wishbone hopefully the ex shop can do some fancy bending...

Is there a way to lift the engine out,
then lower it back in with the headers installed?
