I am trying to use a 39 transmission on my model b original flywheel housing with the support rods to the k member. I am using a modern hi torque starter so i do not need the clearance bump out for the starter in the model b transmission case. Does anyone know if the mounting holes line up and if can just fab a block off plate to cover the hole remaining between the transmission and the flywheel housing.
I run a B trans with 40 gears behind an A motor with a 32 K member. Haven't gotten around to the steady rods yet. Its been four years so I am not sure it is going to happen now.
Basically, just use a B case, along with the 1939 shifter tower, and you can use any of the 40-48 ge****ts with the newer type synchro. If you choose to use the 15T x 29T ge****t, you'll probably have to modify the main drive gear to fit into the B case, but that's an easy modification. You do have to stay with the 9" clutch with the B case as the front bell is fairly shallow. The regular B type 1932 rear bearing retainer and rear support will still work.
The transmission bolts to the bell housing on a Model A. It is all one piece on the B case. Both the A bell housing and the B case have the hump for the starter that is not present on the V8 case. See picture. Charlie Stephens
