Howdy guys I wonder if you can help? I got an Early 390ci V8 Cadillac Motor I'm trying to ID the year but not having any joy finding the engine numbers. I can find cast numbers on the top rear of the block. but I can't find any Stamped numbers on the block, can any one help me ID the engine? It's got a remote Behive oil filter so I'm presuming fairly early? E-mail speedandstrip@hotmail.com also any tips on hopping them up? It's seized and needs a complete rebuild anyway... Also any infos you guys might have on the 390's sure would be appreciated. I know there's a few threads already, but nothing on ID'ing them (as far as I could find) I got a lurrrvelly Detroit Racing 2x4 intake and a pair of Rochesters the size of my head she's gonna be a beast, just getting her there eh' Also Anyone know What Altenator Brackets fit the 390's Please don't moan about Generators, I wanna run a decent stereo etc... and can't eb dealing the crappy charging... Also I don't have a spare generator and I do have an altenator!
If you go to the "tech Archive" and do a search, there's quite abit of info there. The first year of the 390 was 1959, which did have the 'beehive" oil filter. It was eliminated in 1960. There should be a machined "pad" on front of engine, with #'s on it. Post those and the one's on back of block, and I'm sure someone with more knowledge then me will be able to help you out. Have fun!! Marko.
Like I said I did have a look in the tech section, but couldn't find anything RE: Id'ing the VIN, luckily, the ledgend that is Keith @AAC-UK Informed me it's stamped on the rear of the block, on top of the bellhousing, 50 years of crud and paint and disquised the plate! Doh! Thought I'd mention where it was incase any one comes to search this thread in the future. Now I've got the number I can crack on and start building the little sucker! Thanks for looking.
