You have incredible metal shaping skills. Love the extended rear fenders and the whole rear concept....it flows beautifully. My first car was a 39 Deluxe tudor and I really like the crank out windshield, dash and flush headlights better than the 40. Awesome build, will be following.

Thanks for the kind words. I am going to keep as many of the deluxe features as I can. The 39 was always my favourite from when I first got hooked on hot rods and customs.
Im keeping the crank out front window, opening cowl vent, door handles and side trim, headlights and the sedan trunk handle.
I also bought a set of mini Zephyr, 39 Ford size tailights. But they are a bit wider than the top of the rear fender so im not sure if they will be the finalist in that area.

Awesome build thread! Just what the HAMB needs...more hands on down and dirty builds.

It's a shame that one has to weed thru all the ****py social type threads to find this one but well worth the sifting.

The car looks amazing!!!! Can't wait to see more.

Keeping the tapered end of the body line for a (factory) look I started to fill in the gap between the fender and the trunk lid. Had a die made up for the bead roller to make the transition piece.
This part of the body line will be key to making the conversion look worth all the effort. I expect to be spending a fair bit of time later in this area to get it perfect.

    More filling in the gaps.
Made the rear pan and i'm quite happy how that shape came out. Bent a piece of sheet metal around a length of pipe on the bench and shrunk the inside of flange and stretched the outer 8 or so inches. I may reproduce this as the lower edge of the future custom dashboard.

Started working towards the final shape for the roof. Made a filler piece to go between the trunk lid and the rear windows. This piece has a "new" body line in it that will flow into the drip rail somewhat like the rendering.

I tried to get that panel in one piece but decided to cut it part way through at each end.

The right side of the new roof looks good , profile wise. The other side looked a bit flat and the lower filler piece didn't fit that well, so I cut it out.
Made some profile templates with from 18ga angle and the shrinker-stretcher and flipped them to the other side and got the curves both the same.

    Thanks,
It would look good with a nice banjo rear end and a I beam up front. Do you know anyone who has a set.:)

Outstanding work on the roof, great proportions and lines. I really like watching this come together, one of the best builds on the hamb right now.

Nice work! Inspirational, makes patch work seem like a walk in the park in comparison.

The difference between average and awesome is the willingness to redo something until it's done right. Well done!

Made up a filler piece with the new body line in it. I was going for a bit of a 37 Ford coupe roof look.
I peeled back the drip rail and tack welded it in.

    IMG_20151024_151057.jpg IMG_20151025_165345.jpg IMG_20151104_205959.jpg IMG_20151108_145408.jpg

Still some fine tuning of the drip rail but other than that I am happy with the profile.
