Event Coverage 3rd Annual SWMO Hot Rod Hundred Reliability Run - March 26, 2016

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by bchrismer, Jan 22, 2016.

  1. Planning these events takes a LOT of consideration to make sure that you don't conflict with other events and such. Somebody (me), never even dreamed of looking at 5K schedules.

Dan Stears shared this photo on my FB wall. Forgive the OT Cuda.

Imagine my surprise, when I pulled up behind the officer and he advises me, "Sir, I can't let you pass through, there is a 5K underway."

Without much thought, I reply, "Uh...Well...I've got about 150 cars behind me that are going to block your road for quite a while then."

    He says, "You serious???"

    I say, "Yup."

He says, "Gimme a few minutes."

He let us pass through, after convincing them to delay the start of the run, but the "race official" over the next hill wasn't so nice. Deputy set him straight for us, though.

  6. June 11, 2016, starting at the Western Sizzlin' in Springdale. @Sullys garage is the point man for that event, and we will have several of the CrossMembersCC and the Rollin' Relics members supporting him in the event.

  9. Steve, If I'd known you would be willing to make the trip over from StL, I would have reached out to you. If you want to do it next year, the date is set for Easter Saturday, April 15.

Had a blast, thanks for everything! Three generations of us were in Dad's brown '63 Nova wagon survivor. The 5K didn't bother anybody in our group...we just spent the next hour or so trying to figure out why some random folks put a table with cups of water quite literally in the middle of a county road (yes we are that dense!). Here is a video from the dash of my friend Brian Orr's Mustang, courtesy of his co-pilot Joey Crum.

Club pic award winner Tom Trosper.... 33 3 window owned and driven by Tom and his lovely bride for 55 years. This was their 3rd Hot Rod Hundred, and we really appreciate them bringing it out....he can bolt in a Lasalle 3spd or a later 4 speed to suit his mood.... really cool old car. 20160326_134353_resized_1.jpg 20160326_110445_resized_1.jpg

Looks like a successful 100, great work by all to pull it off and to get one more item (any 5K runs on the route?) added to the check list.

What a day. I cannot thank all of you enough. Made some new friends, visited with old friends, saw some new parts of Missouri and I got to spend the day behind the wheel of an old vehicle. I am blessed. The dippy section of road just before Crane, Mo. was hard on my old truck. The center of my sub-frame looks like polished steel. A great day. I was humbled on my way back home. I was running around 75 in the fast lane on I-44 East passing a long line of 18-wheelers. My 327 was singing sweet music. I looked in the mirror and a little blonde with white sunglasses in a Prius was right on my bumper wanting me to move over. This is America, something about that just ain't right. What a day.

I found out that I like my photos better when I jump around the route and take photos of the cars going by. But I had more fun driving the route. So next time I'll leapfrog the route again.

  24. LOL There was only a few places that would have been decent for leapfrogging on this one. You'da had to study the map and find the "bit more obscure" routes to get ahead of us, I think.

  25. This year, we used the Light for the Lost ministries BBQ team to come down and cater the event. When we were settling up our food bill, their team leader, Jason, was telling us about his speaking engagement that morning for a "Men's Breakfast". Said it was a little country church west of Springfield. He told them that he was heading down to the park to do our lunch, and a little about that. Said after he was done speaking and the breakfast was over, they were all walking outside to the parking lot and there we were, traveling up Hwy T next to the church.

  26. I don't have the photos, but hopefully somebody else will add them. We gave our "Long Haul" award to Steve and Lelia Weinstein, aka @hoop, who had the wild hair to jump in his killer OT '71 Maverick and come join us in MO, all the way from Hingham, Massachusetts (1500 miles or so). Lelia told me that Steve is terrible with directions, so he could have intended to go to Springfield, MA rather than Springfield, MO.

I called Steve, yesterday, to find out if he got his event t-shirt, since it was a size that we had a VERY limited supply of, and he told me they were down in Waco, TX! GO, MAN, GO!!!

If you get a chance to hang out with Steve and Lelia, make sure to do it, and check out his Mav. I teased him that I thought the only cool thing you could do with a Maverick was to take the rearend out of it and put it under a '35-40 Ford, but he sure proved that wrong!

X2.... If you see them in the "bedroom blue" Maverick, make sure to stop and talk with them. You'll be glad you did.
