Well, I know that you've already bought it and mounted it, but that shifter is dogshit. I'd find an old used Hurst Syncro-Loc or Mastershift and use it before I'd use that thing. As far as popping out of gear goes, are you talking about popping out of high? A downfall of your style transmission was that the 2-3 shift fork (inside the cover) would wear excessively and result in what you're describing.
