3X2 intake for 302 SBF???? Do they exist????

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chris Casny, Apr 29, 2007.

  1. I have a 1973, 302 motor.
I would like to find out if anybody made or makes a 3X2 intake manifold for a SBF?

Ford also offered one over the parts counter in the '60s; I remember seeing them in Cobra Equipment ads in Hot Rod magazine.

I also looked for 3-2 intakes for my sbf bought decided not to get it because you got to use ugly 2 barrel carbs, I thought a 4 barrel looked fine with one of those caddy air cleaners and be easier and cheaper

Company called Pony Carburetion makes SBF tri-power kits using Ford OEM 2 barrels. Generally pretty trouble free carbs, don't know how they perform. Do a google search, also Pony Carburetion show up on ebay a lot.

I know a guy here who's making (casting) new tops for the injection manifolds so they can run triples, either 4 or 3 bolt bases (97's, 94's). The injection manifold bottoms are worth nothing, the new tops are something like $250 Australian, which would be $200 ish US. I'll try for a pic.

It's not a perfect period solution, but cheap!

One could use the carb adaptors to mount 94's or 97's...

The Y blocks had a lot of factory tri power.
The 289 - 302 was aftermarket with little factory parts available.

Backwards. The Y-BLOCK 3X2 was aftermarket (rumors of an experimental BILL STROPPE setup on 1957 MERC).

Most everything for the SBF was factory released with the proper 2300 HOLLEYS. These were known as COBRA KITS and were available over-the counter.

BLUE THUNDER is the source of the present re-casts.

PONY CARBURETORS is making a setup using 2100 AUTOLITES.

I'd love to see it, I spent a bunch time this weekend looking at an EFI lower intake and my collection of two barrels trying to work somethink out. I couldn't quite work out an independent runner set up.

The 5.0L lower plenum will give you a single plane manifold. You could go to a log type if you can get away with a single plane on the street.

The BG setup is a HIGH TECH look. Great for customizing.

Spoke to the adaptor guy tonight. This thing is totally fresh and I haven't even seen it with my own beady eyes yet, but he's taking some pix as I type. I'll post as soon a I get them as I know some of you are interested.

Carrol Shelby had 500 of these kits built in Detroit back in 1965, for The Shelby 350.
They were a "Dealer Installed Option" Sold for $249. installed !!! WOW!
I paid $3k each for mine.
Because all 3 carbs needed to be tuned individually, [what a pain] they didn't sell many.
    Ford Crushed 250 of them.
Ya can see one of mine in my Truck, [I owned 2]
I have lots of Docs available.

These are a poor copy, and I mean POOR! of the original "Barr Foundry" manifolds.
Orig had "Barr" cast into the underside, and they are spectacular.

There was SBF 3x2 in the Muscle parts catalog, I have one on the shelf I will not use.
It looks the same but it does not have any part numbers on it.
I can post a photo tonight.

It has been a while since a new guy dug up a really old thread. Nearly 16 years old, just about ready for it's license.

I had a “ Buddy Bar Casting” tri power on my 302 in a off topic Comet GT. Never had an issue with tune, ran great. I even had a cruise control connected to it.
