4.6 swap into a 51 ford

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 71buickfreak, Sep 21, 2007.

  1. HEY thanks for the plug!

I have a few sets of these for the Iron block engines and I do have a pair on hand for the aluminum block. Here are some pictures of a 5.4 Lightning engine we installed in one of our 53-56 F100 Frames.

I really like the way these engines are packaged. Much like a flathead or SBC with the rear sump but the accessories are a thing to behold. The alternator is nesltled neatly between the heads just above the waterpump with no brackets, it bolts directly on the block and heads. Very slick packaging and reasonably short. The width could be a problem but most of the manifolds hang directly under the head and make routing the exhaust pretty easy for most older cars.

Wow, I can't believe I missed this thread. We've been getting alot of calls for these parts lately, so even though the motors are not traditional, there are more and more peeps who are installing them in their older cars.

We have conversion parts (motor mounts, transmission crossmembers, and mandrel-bent, old-school-style log headers) to install the 4.6L and 5.4L engines into the Ford Shoeboxes with stock suspension and steering. We also have the motor mount kits for fitment on MII-equipped Shoes.

Mandrel-bent exhaust kits for mod-motored Shoes, and conversion kits for earlier Fords, are coming soon.

As far as intakes, there are carbed manifolds available, and the MSD box is a stand-alone ignition specifically designed for carbed applications. My favorite intakes are made by Kar Kraft; I have one of their 2x4 tunnel rams on my 5.4L DOHC-powered altered.

Any questions, feel free to check out the website or pm or email!

I'm often amused at the long slumbering threads that get woke up and brought back to the top. There can be some useful information in a lot of these old ones.

This old thread should have been left to slumber. Or, moved to a new web site. Is DOGFIGHT still around?

Sorry for my bringing this back to the top again. How about one of the moderators putting this back to bed for good? Don't mean to offend anyone. But, late model computer controlled metric motors don't seem very traditional to me. -Dave.

  7. My only guess at the zombie threads is that the new search function is kinda wonky. It's easier to google what you're looking for then click the related Hamb threads.

I find some of the zombie threads to quite informative as to who did what to what and then the project finished and folks moved on. Simple fact is that there are plenty of these new-fangled engines, from all manufacturers, filling up the boneyards and this is what the next generation of hot-rodders will be looking at. There is a finite number of 50's v-8's and when they are unavailable for what ever reason then the new guys will find a replacement.
IIRC, back in the old days, we put whatever engine we had in whatever car needed an engine. It didn't matter that the engine was new-ish, in fact, we thought we won the lottery if we got lucky enough to score a late model/low mileage piece. There were more guys swapping engines when they died than there were rebuilding them and the 'new' engine often came from the boneyard. Personally, I don't see a problem that needs fixin.
