I want to follow this. 20 years ago I bought a Mercruzer engine that had a fresh ring and valve job. It has two side draft carbs with all the boat exhust. It has a large alternator and stock distributed. I know I will have to replace the manifolds, but it should be a good runner. It is the Chevy version so it will be easy to get set up. Just need the right project. (Somebody stole the boat while the motorwas out)
I have the 181 inch version in my AVATAR mated to a '39 Ford transmission. I an running a 153 head and an aftermarket intake (Clifford) with stock exhaust. Works great. Charlie Stephens
181 is the good one. Same basic block and I think head can be found in some Hyster fork lifts but by the time the forklift is junk the engine is usually beyond worn out. Here is an old thread on the same subject. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/gm-marine-enigne-id.816279/
