I have a 55' Olds 88 4 door. I was thinking of going the gasser direction with it. Anyone else done something like this?

Ha! I had a 4 dr Holiday hardtop and bought a plain jane 88 4 dr parts car for the motor+trans, gave the body to a friend in exchange for storage. I had thought about making some gasser deal of the 4 door but realized that anything I had sitting would make it an 18 second "gasser" and thats pretty homosexual, so I didnt.

BUT...there was in Red Bank NJ (if anyone sees this thread) probably one of the coolest gassers Id seen in awhile, a silver and black (I believe) 55 Chevy with the back doors shaved. I only saw it once, but MAN it was clean. Radirs and wide whites on it, super nice ride.

There's a 57 chevy 4dr gasser on eB@y right now, its pretty cool but i'd still rather have a 2dr post as a gasser.

Going this direction w/ my 57 Olds 88. I am sure you will hear all kinds of***** for it, but I will tell you right now that I have a decent amount of pics of 4 doors in the late 50's / early 60's running gas class.

Here's another Willys, the Grand Speed Shop car driven and owned by Ed Yerkey, and later Steve Barnhart. Taken around '74 at Havana IL. Too bad the pic isn't the best, it had some nice panel and lace work by Stan Sopher.

I can try to post some tonight. She doesn't look like much now and progress is slow...no time, money, etc, and now the cold weather (no garage). Right now I have the interior gutted (it will stay like this) and I am reparing the floors, rockers, etc. I am also working on the engine in parallel.

Artie B -- I will try to post some of the electonic pics of some 4 door gassers later tonight (many more in old mags).

    Where is blt4speedsince79 at??

cgaswillys -- I love that car! We talked before...I live in Marlton. You may get an PM from me in the near future for some questions on the early Olds rear, as I saw one of your posts on another thread.

I bought my folk's yellow and white 55 Olds super 88 fordoor sedan when my mom was having some $$ problems and she bought a ford falcon because it was easier on gas.
I didn't really want it but she needed the money and as a army private, I didn't have much money to spend on it. I buffed out the paint and was able to afford one pair of chrome wheels for it. Mounted them on the front and mounted a pair of pie-crust cheater slicks on the rear on black rims. The 324, 4 barrel had been maintained well and had low miles. The 4 speed slant-pan hydro was still tight and would bark 2nd gear rubber.
I doubt I'd go too far with the gasser look myself.....no straight axles or ladder bars IMHO...I'd prolly just do what I did to mine in 1967.

  24. That Woody was oned by Jeff Courte who
went on to race fuel funny's, a very nice guy. The woody ultimately ran
blown on a small % of nitro and thought it was a low/mid 10 sec. car I believe it ran near 150mph, YIKES! Hey maybe we should start a "What happened to Jeffs Woody thread. i-1_B_L_2.jpg

driven almost daily, high compression, open headers, spool and all and will run 11.8@ 113

  26. Here's an oldie but a goodie. The original Martin & Perkins '37 Willys 4-door B/GS car, raced circa 1961 @ San Gabriel Drag Strip here in Southern California with a 331 cu.in. blown Cadillac engine. I'd call it an amazing survivor, since the body is in wonderful, non-rusted condition. Was hoping to be able to put it back on the track, but more pressing issues are forcing me to sell it (see classifieds).

Check out the May 2009 issue of "Hot Rod Deluxe." There is some 1960's footage of some gassers, and one is a Packard 4 door (Flintstone Flyer), and the other is a 53 Olds 4 door.
