i have a 59 apache stepside, stock leaf spings all the way round. I want to lower it cheaply but still keeping it safe for the road. what modications will have to be made to the steering, pitman arm, etc. if any, if i choose to purchase a 4inch drop axle? will i run into any problems? i don't care about the ride quality as much as i do the look. please and thanks !
Back in '79 I wanted the same look when I had a 58 Apache. Took the stock front leaf springs apart, burned off the extra loop on the second spring and reversed the top spring. Clamped everything back together and reinstalled the springs. Instant 4" drop on the cheap! 15x6-6 lug Keystones and F78-15 tires completed the look. Good Luck.
Cant remember the name of the place, but there is a place in Guthrie Oklahoma that make drop axles for them installed they quoted me $380 for my 58 Apache and $300 exchange to install myself
You mean Sid @ www.droppedaxles.com. That's where I got the 4" dropped axle for my old 59 apache as well. aside from the standard flipping of the steering arm and installation of caster shims, it was pretty much a bolt in affair for me. There is a tech article on Sid's site with a walkthrough done on an AD truck. Its pretty much the identical to your 59. There are also a few threads on here dealing with the install.
