I was thinking of mounting the upper bars of my 4 link (triangulated) on the front part of the axle as opposed to the top of it like most people do. This will give me more room to work with and less floor to cut. It is on a notched 50 chevy, does anybody see any potential problems with that?

yes, to get the benifit from a 4 bar setup the bars should be 180 degrees apart close to the axle centerline and parallel with each other in the verticle plane.
