I've found an n.o.s. 4 speed hydro for a rambler it has a tailshaft set up for an inclosed driveline. I was told this would work behind my 62 olds 394 if I changed the tailshaft over to an open one. Granted I will need a bellhousing and a converter. The million dollar question is will this work or was he just trying to make a sale? But the price is dirt cheap and its still in the factory box.Anyhow any info or help with this would be helpfull. On a positive note the front half of model a frame is sand blasted and almost ready for boxing!!! Thanks Jason
if it's that good e-gay it and buy a good gm hydro. after saying that of course it will work Gm sold those hydro to everyone of the day including Lincoln and Rolls Royce and about 13 others. the trans was pretty constant but the torus wheels varied in size. much like torque converters and the tail shafts
Go here and read up on the Hydramatic You may have to save the pictures as .jpg's and then print them so they are readable, but they will tell you almost eveything you need to know And no, a Hydro from a Rambler is not going to live long behind a 394; they were not all the same http://www.rodnkustom.com/rocketeers/hydramatic/index.html
Question; "I've found an n.o.s. 4 speed hydro for a rambler" Answer; rambler hydro has fewer clutches and smaller pinions than Olds hydro. Q.; "it has a tailshaft set up for an inclosed driveline." A.; that should stop you right there. Q.; "I was told this would work behind my 62 olds 394 if I changed the tailshaft over to an open one. Granted I will need a bellhousing and a converter." A.; only if you have the torus cover and flywheel rebalanced to work with the 394,which is externally balanced.BTW it's a fluid coupler, not a torque converter. Q.; "The million dollar question is will this work or was he just trying to make a sale?" A.; look for a '53-4-5 Olds or '53-4 Lincoln or '53-4-5 Cadillac hydro instead.you'll be glad you did.
