    ok here is the story

all cars from amarillo texas and the owners are all friends
light turned red and the first three cars stopped just fine. the red 39 standard had the brakes fail along the way and the when the owner got up to stop he had no brakes at all with no warning.

all cars had grundy insurance and all claims except one have been paid. the 40 sedan was totaled and bought back and is getting fixed too.

  4. Happened in Albuquerque. I believe it was a group outta west Texas cruisin' in to hook up with a group from California heading for the NSRA Nationals in Louisville. Rough way to start a trip!

A tough deal, no matter who's driving what, that could happen to any of us who travel with friends.

looks like they fell for the "malachi crunch"! Someone definately bailed out. I saw this happen at a car show. a guy let his 16 yr. old daughter take her friends around the fairgrounds for a cruise, the throttle stuck and she wiped out a couple of cars. It was scary to watch.

Man that ****s no matter what happened, but brakes failed without warning? How far did he drive and not notice any sign of brakes failing, like a soft pedal? Street rod probably would have a dual master. Guess all the fluid could have leaked out since he last applied the brakes, but in town-stop and go driving? I just can't see having perfectly ok brakes one time and nothing the next. Maybe on a long highway drive with no braking all the fluid could leak out. Had a customer who drove metal to metal until the backing part of the brake pad disengrated and the caliper piston came out on a modern ot car.

That really ****s,brakes totally failed ,too bad he had to take out his buddies cars.Look at it this way, if his buddies cars didn't stop him it could of ended up a lot worse.Someone could of been killed. Cars can be fixed but humans cant come back from the dead.Hope they are still buddies.

That's why I'm a HUGE proponent of LED taillights and third brake lights. Too street-roddish? Not trad enough? Tough ****, I want to be SEEN by the guy behind me when I stop my vehicle!

Despite not being seen was NOT the cause of the crash, and ****py brakes were, I still stand by what I said.

Cars can be fixed, in any case.

Going back to the post about the guys on snowmobiles doing the same thing and the one guy was following too close because he was afraid he'd get lost. Wouldn't there be tracks in the snow?

  15. Damn!
If I keep watching these youtube videos of car crashes, and car fires, and read all the stolen car stories...,
Well mister, I might just have to take that crazy old man, 'round the corner, up on his offer to chop and channel the ol' '41 Half Track of his, throw on some wide whites, paint it suade, and no more worries!

There's a camera at every light these days. You punch it, you get a ticket in the mail!

  18. No, in most places those are sensors for the Fire and ambulance. The trucks send out a signal and the sensors pick it up and change the lights so they can get through the intersection. ;)

Not in Cedar Rapids, they jumped on the money-making bandwagon.

    http://www.cedar-rapids.org/government/departments/police/pages/missionstatement.aspx

They were supposed to be only red light cameras but now they have them hanging above the interstate and just send you a speeding citation. Here's the mobile speed camera. It just sits along the road unmanned. They budgeted $750,000 for income from this for this fiscal year.

OK, here is the story. The '40 was my car and yes it was totaled BUT it is being put back together. The 1st three were STOPPED at the light after pulling out of a parking lot when the '39 came up behind, hit his brakes and nothing was there. The front brake line failed and his foot went toward the floor hitting the gas with no time to respond. We had just got off the E-way traveling 70 MPH a few minutes before this happened. We are counting our lucky stars even thou there are repairs to be made. We are still very good friends with no hard feelings and no grudge. We put a lot of miles on these cars - they are not ever on a trailer - until this day - and will be on the road again. We do have, or did have LED tail lights and we do not tailgate - and no there was not a good looking blonde taking our attention since our wifes were right beside us.

I can not say enough about the ones that stopped to help out. We met a lot of great people and even the local police were good to deal with. The cars were towed to the Mild to Wild Shop in Albuquerque. They were also a great group to deal with. If you are ever in that area look them up - a great shop to visit or use.

FUNNY story--Couple years ago at Des Moines Goodguys- A 59 Delivery was Pulling a homeade trailor(car frontend welded to a car rearend kind). Dead battery on a turn lane. Sombody called in and said there was a bad accident. They thought the trailer was a car. Cops triggered all the lights for 4 miles to green. Most people leaving the show have to wait for the light to turn red to turn. thus backing up traffic after the fireworks. It took forever to get out. I still give him **** about that one.

  24. Yes, but you said "EVERYWHERE" Most places the little camera looking thing is for emergency services.:)
