When I think about how many conventional pro drag races I've seen where only one car made a real p***....4 wide is the ***s.

I thought it was dumb. It looks like the NHRA is becoming the WWE of motorsports. I'd like to see 16 wide racing. One round and you can go do something better. I was at Fontana the night they ran four jets side by side on a two lane track. Much more exciting.

I was there all weekend and enjoyed it very much. It is unbelievably exciting when 4 T/F Dragsters leave together and cross the finish line together at 300 mph not to mention the noise and that much nitro in the air. In one qualifying foursome yesterday all four Dragsters turned between 3.83 and 3.85. It is almost impossible to keep up with in the Fuel cl***es though. The Pro Stockers were much easier due to the 100 mph difference. It will be an ***et in the Sportsman cl***es in my opinion.

I am sure Bruton was disappointed with the turnout although rain was forecast for the finals. The Saturday crowd was much better. He may reconsider Las Vegas.

I watched it on TV too and it wasn't nearly as good as being there. I don't think the drivers were too fond of it. In my opinion it will only be a special event race like this one once a year. It can't be done anywhere else anyway and the Fall race at zMAX will be 2 lane racing.

  5. Says Jul 68 on the border. I peeled it outta the "Drag cars in motion" thread or the first "Cool pictures post em here" thread back in 08. Pretty sure it was a scan and the fella had given the exact year but the drag car thread is m***ive and I'm not sure the cool pictures one is still up. He might've said it was Charlotte, also. Sorry I can't help more.

I have a night pic somewhere that I found online from Budds Creek Md (MIR) of four funny cars wide,in the early '70s IIRC. Same place? The pic is from the rear,so I can't compare it to that one. Other than that pic,I don't know what the the track looked like then. ;)

4 wide??? RIDICULOUS!!! perfect case of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should" all the tracks should have the same rules, same tree, same qualifying ladders, etc... what if only one basketball arena decided to put two rims at each end of the court, instead of just one? and use 2 basketballs? and the rest of the NBA still had the "traditional" style court. what if yankee stadium decided to have 2 pitchers and 2 batters up at the same time, but ONLY in yankee stadium. (actually that might make baseball a little more exciting) but my point being that you cant just decide to change the game because some rich guy has nothing better to do with his money! its not fair or safe for the racers , and its especially not fair to the fans. we already lost 320 feet of track, now they wanna shorten the events too with **** like this! WAKE UP NHRA, YOUR LOSING FANS!!!

Yep. When you think of drag racing, you think of Bruton Smith, don'tcha???

If anyone can turn the NHRA into the WWE, it's probably him.

I watched it yesterday and loved it.

  15. There are some things that need to be one on one, mano e mano. Things like boxing, arm wrestling, checkers, knife fights and DRAG RACING.
Anything else is just plain wrong.

I think it sux!!!! One on one so I can cheer on my favorite and see how the two run. Four wide is more like who just ran and who beat who, wait what just happened? I like to watch in the shop while I working on stuff so it's hard multi-task with this format. Live I'm sure it's bad *** but sure knocks out the day quick. Maybe next, one car on each side could go backwards and then at the lights they could stop and race back to the tree and the staging lanes can also be the shut down area. Just for fun Yes, for national events No!!!

So let's see..... we shorten the track 320 feet in the interest of safety.... Now we are adding the number of cars racing at the same time by 100%??
Gotta love the knee-jerk reactions to all of NHRA's changes

NHRA needs to get their head out of their ***es soon before they come up with the pregnant idea of adding a hydroplane race to this fiasco.

I thought it was OK. But beating someone twice, in one day, and then losing to them in the final seems wrong

Just returned from the finals. Force beat his daughter 4.03 to 4.04. Cory Mac beat Doug Kalitta 3.820 to 3.825. Pro Stock cars and bikes was nearly as close. I liked it. Hmmmmm. I'm glad Bill France didn't think four was too many.
