John HesFORDs, full dress for salt flats run. He sold it. Are you now the owner? Worlds fastest 40/41 Ford sedan delivery 135 mph. With Ford in your name of course he is running a ford engine.
lee wilson's, know longer with us. member of forties limited. do you now own lee's 41 ? a artical in rod action about 1970 with lee's delivery states "passenger car fenders were used in back as they cling closer to the body not sticking out as far as the stock delivery units."
The sedan delivery I posted is Folkstone grey--the gas filler is in the fender to get the tank under rear of car like a regular 40-has both tiallite stands as well-doing it for a friend
here's one I've had for many years! just waiting for me to start working on it again. it's a long way down the list of cars to do before I croak, hope I get to it!
Here's mine, just bought it a couple months ago. Got most everything I need to get started, just need a few more $'s and some additional time!
Here is my latest one. I found it in a storage yard after 30+years. Paid the storage fee and drug it home. Looks bad but is really a solid car with surface rust. I am just now starting to make it nice delivery. The black one is my neighbors 41.
Now let's talk about driving these things. Although I love mine, I say it is like "driving a cave" and I spend a lot of time in the right lane because lane changing is such a challenge. When I rebuild mine, I am thinking about cameras that are tied to the turn signal switch on both sides rear.
Mine currently 'decommissioned' but on the project list - drove it many miles before electrical problems sidelined it....
Found this '41 in the 90's, sitting in this spot since the 60's, drug it home with high hopes but ended up trading it for another project. not sure if the guy I sold it to ever built it. I will own a 40/41 driver some day. I've had many deliveries and yes they are a trick to drive. But well worth learning how because they are scarce.
They all look good, and they are hard to see out of. I could not get my pic. to post. Check out the pile up pics. Mine is the Black Del in the night before .
Back in the 70s my friend Trip and I went to look at a "32" Coupe up on West Mount Houston Rd in north Houston. The coupe turned out to be a 30-31 body but had a nice 32 shell and grille, so we bought it for $50, loaded up and were about a mile down the road when Trip hollered and I stopped the truck. We were passing a junkyard and he saw the top of a sedan delivery out there. It turned out to be a 40 DeLuxe missing the interior and engine/trans/radiator. Had an old chromed finned diecast scoop screwed to the top of the hood. That bad boy cost him $150 and we picked it up the next day. Those were the days...
I love '40 Fords from coupes and sedans to trucks. The deluxe grills are awesome along with flush in the fenders headlights. A sedan delivery is neat.
I've never had a red street rod. After seeing Weasel's S/D I may re-think the color for mine when I re-do it. Also, never seen the '39 teardrops installed there before, neat!
I used later model GM mirrors on my Chevy delivery, they were the only ones that you could see out of and didn't wiggle around, tried the ones that clamp to the door edge and the ones on the hinge pins, couldn't see nothing with those, they shook so badly. Of course I still have to remember what the last car looked like when I past it.
Mine was patterned after the Coca Cola fleet of which apparently 400 were produced - below is an original....
junk yard find. about 1965. was working next door in a tool crib. color, top yellow, bottom black. paid $5.00 a week. total of $45.00. opu27s delivery.
This belongs to Pete, a friend of mine in Australia. Its been there a while, but did do push duty at Bville before it landed in Oz
All the 40 Sedan Deliveries were DeLuxe models except for a run for the US Post Office which had Standard hoods, grilles, body color headlamp doors. The 41 Deliveries used the hood trim from the 41 Pickups and the 40 Standard, 40-41 Pickup grille.
