....so why the hell can't I get excited!?
I've just found a 40-41 Ford P/U. Seller has been ****ing around trying to play buyers off one another for a couple of weeks. Yesterday he said it's mine. I should be over the moon, but I just can't seem to find the excitement I know I should have (lot going on at work & personal life right now)
I'm almost thinking I should p***, but I have NEVER seen another one in South Africa......Thing is though, it's a 1000 miles away and the price is around $5000 - I've been burned buying sight unseen before, so I really need to go look at it first.
Apparently "ran when parked" in 1977 and been in his shed since then.

I sound like a whining crybaby wanting someone to tell me it's all OK - when what I really need is a good size 13 planted on my **** to get my at***ude right...any offers:eek::rolleyes:;)

If it's complete and real solid, $5k is probably a good deal. When you consider how hard they must be to find in South Africa, I'd say it's a once in a lifetime find.

Generally, if someone asked about buying a car 1000 miles away, I'd suggest having another HAMBer from the area check it out ahead of time. But, that probably won't work in this case.

It's a '41. Looks a little rough but $5000 in a land that doesn't have many, can you afford to be pickey?

Better have a look first. But if it's right do it. I can't imagine theres too much rust there.

If it's solid, grab it. It's got to be EXTREMELY rare being that it's a Right Hand Drive. Unless the image is flipped.

The image can't be flipped, the V8 emblem is correct! ;)

By the way, is that a stack of cannonballs sitting by the garage on the drivers side (notice I didn't say left or right?) of the pickup?

    Update time:

8 months later this thing was still there. I decided the hell with it and drove up with a trailer and some bills.
Turned out a little rougher than I'd seen in pics. Had sent my brother around to check it out, but he is no car guy....

Anyways, some ****ering on the price and we got it loaded

Turns out the door skins have been welded to the hinges. Luckily I have another pair in great shape.

Besides being rusted through at the cab corners and the floor rotten (nothing unexpected), the fenders are a little torn up from a life on gravel roads, but the rest of the body is solid.

Mechanically it's a little less than I'd hoped for. V8-60 (maybe from an English Ford?) fitted at some point. Also the rear end is on wide five artillery wheels - I am guessing that was all changed at some point too.

2400 miles in 46 hours, with 4 hours sleep and a tyre blowout on the way back. Not too clever, but it gives us some stories to tell!

Not sure exactly which direction to go with this truck - had thought I would keep it very original looking, but am tending a little toward doing a few more modern upgrades to make it easier to live with as a daily.
Best I let it stand for a while and allow the answers to come to me...

And I never did get to see if those were cannonballs!! - weren't there when we picked it up:D

the vertical hood trim pieces on both sides of the latch look like those found on a 41 sedan delivery. the 41 truck latch piece is one large piece that rolls up and over the crown on the USA models. would guess that wherever that truck was ***embled probably used the 40 latch piece and used SD outer pieces. have you seen other examples like this before? I would guess that there are also other differences unique to any export model, specially if ***embly was done elsewhere.

Those "cannonballs" are likely smudge pots, used as highway emergency markers back in the day and in orchards where threat of cold endangers the crops.

The tailgate only says Ford which is correct for 1941.

    Thanks all.
Yep, pretty sure it is a '41. Hood trim is broken. I'll make up a grill for it too in time - unless a really good deal turns up somewhere AND I can get it shipped. Headlight surrounds are mismatched too.

This is the only one I have ever seen in South Africa, and have only ever heard of one other. A little odd because other makes of the era and most other model years of Ford are still pretty common. So I am really glad I pulled the trigger on this one.......
