I'm working on a 1940 ford pickup that I'm restoring/rodding. I have a few questions and am hoping there's some knowledge here to help me out. Would this truck originally came with a rearview mirror? Also all the hardware in the door is painted, so would these trucks have had all the guts in the doors as the rolled down the line to paint? If so, would the glass have been removed? Or the windows just rolled down with the felts removed?
Rear view mirrors were optional although mirrors were made by Ford. Simply put... a dealer option. The vehicle is painted before weather strip, felt, rubber or glass. The window frame was painted before glass installation. Some of the internal door parts may not have had finish at all. If those parts were painted it was before assembly.
If your truck has all the inner door hardware painted body color, I bet it was during a repaint. As F-one said, the internals were not installed until after the body was painted. I never would have guessed that an interior rear view mirror was an option.
