Hey gang, I just thought I would throw this out there, 'cause there seems to be a pretty good following of these cars on the H.A.M.B. Hopefully, if this same thing happens to someone else and they hit the search function, this'll save them some time. I headed over to my client "Crazy Roy's" house to do a rebuild on the brakes on his minty original 63,000 mile '40 Chevy Deluxe four door yesterday. He had been having problems with individual wheels locking up and not balancing very well, so I suspected a full go-through was in order. After getting into stuff, I realized the biggest culprit was a couple of broken shoe return spring in a couple of the wheels. We're talking the big ones just below the wheel cylinder. No problem, I'll just head over to our wholesaler and grab it in the morning.... Or so I thought! Turns out NOBODY catalogs this spring set anymore! At all! So after a couple of stops on Phoenix's well stocked N.O.S. parts store scene, I was getting a bit desperate. Off to the last resort, Arizona Clutch and Brake... The older guy there looked down at me and shook his head when I said '40 Chevy, pretty much as he always does 'cause I never come in looking for any thing from this century. But then he did some digging and cross referencing for me - and magic happened ! Long story short, Wagner # H10315 or F101716 sells for about 9.00 - And contains enough of the same spring to do the whole car!!! Like I said, nothing earth shaking, but if it saves one fellow H.A.M.B.er from running around town looking for something or waiting for the mail.... WORTH IT!
