Projects 40 Chevy Custom

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by Gas Stove-bolt, Sep 3, 2013.

  1. I have a 40 Chevy coupe that is un-chopped, un-channeled and un-done. I've always been a hot rod guy until the last 10 years. Kemps, Kustoms , Lead Sleds, and Tail Draggers have been on my mine. I've always liked them as cool to look at but now want one.

If any one has pictures of a 40 Chevy 40/50's style tail dragger with skirts, that would be cool. And will it look funky with out a chop?

    Thanks
    Mick

Not a sled, but not chopped. This guy doesn't want skirts or to slam it.

    That is his problem.... LOL

Here is a beauty from Rikster's.

And you can have a nice custom without chopping the top.
(You might give molding-in the fenders some consideration. This gives a nice "organic" feel to the whole car.)

  10. This is what I was looking for....

    Thanks

The car already is low in the front and I want to drop the rear. I do want skirts and slam the back end. I didn't think about molding the fenders and do think it would look good.
I've had it awhile and it was Pro streeted when I got it and had a lot of bad body work done. I had a pacemaker put in and could not use my wire welder, now I have a Henrob 2000. I'm not against a chop top, I just am unable to do one by my self. If I get every thing going, I'm applying for the chop at the KKOA in Salina. You never know.

    Thanks
    Mick

Looked at this picture and thinking - I've just chopped mine.. but i have already forgot how tall that thing was - matter of taste. But not regret that I let the saw to pillars :D

This one is beautiful. You should go without the skirts, I think it looks unique without them.

Great looking car, but I think skirts would help that car. The super deep rear stance leaves the top arch of the rear wheel opening visually fighting with the lower arc of the wheel and white wall, in my eye. It draws your eye there and makes you think about the visual conflict going on. Skirts would hide that and add some visual m*** lower on the car too.

There's no wrong answer, but The Cleatus Chevy has been one of my top 3 HAMB cars for over a decade. Study it well for your Chevy project.

Love it; like you've been drinking from the same well as **** Bertolucci, so to speak. ;)

    *****6

  15. I have to agree on the skirts. Beautiful car, love the paint but to me it needs a little al***ude on the front, just me.

When I got the car , I had no plan and it shows. I am now putting a plan together on my 40 so I stay on track. I had a plan when I built my 57 truck and it went well. So the planning begins.

This car is a '41 chev. Looks kinda similar to a 40 but nothing interchanges. The 41 is actually a bigger body.

Ever since I got on the HAMB I have loved Cleatus' chevy.

As far as a chop- have you talked to Kenny choprods Baker, he isn't far from KC and does excellent chops for a very reasonable price.

Thanks everyone for the nice words on my car.
I'll get it finished some day
    hopefully

I sure do like this new version of the HAMB where they've grouped the custom threads together...it makes it seem more like a small community again, like the early days of the HAMB

Dude...... This car is killer! One of the best examples of a 40 Chevy I've seen!

Some of you folk need to check details,, yer confusing a 40 chev with 41 chevs,, They are really different, but 41-48 are similar,,, but check details..

not pitchin' just tryin' to teach. :)

  28. Yeh we know, 39's are different too. BUT they do look similar and that is the cool part. I have a 1940 and raprap's is a 1940 and the gold and black ones are too. The green/bluey is a 41 and the picture from Ryan is too. I'm just after the stance of a 1940 type /style tail dragger.

Raprap, I showed that to my wife and she said "yes". ( that means FUNDING) Beautiful

Keep the pictures coming and yes I like skirts
