On a '40 Ford coupe there isn't what you would call "weather stripping" for the quarter panel window, as far as I can tell. The weather stripping that I got from Dennis Carpenter is really just a thin rubber sleeve that covers about a quarter of an inch of the gl*** where it contacts the sheet metal of the car. Am I missing something here or is the garnish molding the only thing that holds that piece of gl*** in place? If so, should some type of sealant be used between the gl*** and the sheet metal? Thanks for any advice.

I thought that might be necessary. Any recommended type of sealer?

Drake sells an improved design gasket for the quarter windows that has a lip that extends over the edge of the body. Or you can use a sealer or adhesive if you want.
