This is as close as I'll ever get to a tech submission. I do good just to get the job done. I can't imagine documenting the project as it happens. It doesn't help that my digi camera is a relative antique - what a POS. Anyway, this was last weekend's project. I had to get off the chassis build and do something fun for a while. I'm a much better body man that chassis fabricator. As for the tech part..... cut a zillion little pie cuts and weld it all back together where it looks right. That was the method to this madness. A skim coat of mud should have it slick. I still have to weld up the ash tray holes. A stock dash rail could be used above or leave it off for a Duvall/Hallock frame. JH
Dont forget the recycling of the BOYD frame!!!! I love that part, smoothie***** turned cool hotrod. Not perpetuate the Billet vs. trad stuff but I find it funny when I read Boyds staements in TRJ regarding his sons Mod. The revolution will continue!
The ashtrays have already found a new home. The radiator shell is a late 1920's Whippet (like Clark's on the 999 special). Thanks for the kind words Tman. I'm building my car, my way but when someone one whose work I respect approves, it makes my day. Thanks, Jim
Harrison, I plan on doing the same dash in my RPU. Did you section it any in the middle or just trim the ends. I'll have to wait 'til my steering is in to see where I cut mine as I'm also using a '40 column and wheel. Looks great...
I didn't section it at all. The width was fine - just had to roll the outer corners of the dash into the curve of the A gas tank cover. Pie cuts in the corners was all it took. The steering column and wheel are in front of the driver as is. JH
Damn Harrison, Thats what I want to do to my A. Did you take any step by step pics? This would be a great for Tech Week.NICE work. DAVE
Looking good Jim! You should be on the road for the Moonshine run. Mark drove the coupe the other day. wow, what a badass car he's got
'Twern't really no "tech" to it. I just whacked off () the leading edge of the '40 dash and welded it on the '28 tank cover where it looked right. Pie cuts and relief cuts in the corners made it fairly easy. JH
Looks great Jim! Great looking rod. Now throw a radiator, steering wheel and some seats and you'll be on the road. Thanks for sharing.
