Anyone out there know if a 40 Ford deluxe sedan front clip will fit on a 46 pick-up? I was told some years ago it would fit and just want to make sure. Thanks!
You have to do a lot of work on the cowl, hood and runnig boards....I did one years ago, very labor intinsive........so it can be done ,but it's not a bolt on...
The cowl section is different where the hood and the fenders attach,,different shape. Specifically looking at the truck from the side.HRP
......Hi.....Call ...Jack Olson (Stoughton, WI.) from Olson Motors.....they do a lot of front end transfer on old trucks....( pm me if you need a phone #)......Big Bad John
I think Chris here on the hamb has an extra 40 ford cowl that he might let go of. Might make the job ALOT easier.
The cowl and making a hood is the first challenge. Although '40-'47 cabs are essentially the same, '41 was the last Ford pickup to be built on a p***enger car ch***is, with '40 and '41 pickup being basically the same frame as a '40 car. In '42, the pickup got its own ch***is that was totally different from p***enger cars. Whereas the '40-'41 pickup has a 112" wheelbase ch***is with transverse springs front and rear, with the front of the frame tapering in at the front, '42-'47 is 114" wheelbase straight ladder-type frame, no front taper, parallel leaf springs front and rear. Unless you're an exceptionally good fabricator, all you're likely to accomplish is ruining a lot of good '40 Deluxe sheet metal.
Talk with Dan Collins (of Old Gold Garage fame - Ventura California). He did this one years ago. I do know he had to section the hood together (as mentioned above) for starters, but there is a lot more to it. Best of luck with your project - Speedy
