40 Ford Body work question

Discussion in 'Questions & Suggestions' started by **DONOTDELETE**, Sep 4, 2003.

  1. My 40 is now running. I just have the headers and exhaust left to complete except I now think I'm going to have to repaint. The welting between the body and fenders is cracking and flaking off. It appears to be a paper like material. Is this correct ?? Always thought it was rubber. And should I paint over new welting or install after the cars painted. Thanks Russell

I would replace it if it looks too bad, it would detract from the new paint. The aftermarket stuff is usually made out of vinyl, like in car seats. Many manufacturers offer it in many different colors. There is usually ads for the welting in car mags like Street Rodder, Rod & Custom etc. When I replaced mine on a pick-up I did about 6 years ago, It was pretty inexpensive and easy to work with. GOOD LUCK
