I have the loom / cap ***y on the bench.
How to remove the wires out of the cap. I tried to gently pull them, not wanting to ruin them

I'm inclined to think that if the wires have been in place so long they're stuck from corrosion, they're too old for reuse and should be replaced anyhow.
So just worry about protecting the caps and sacrifice the wires.

You have to twist it back and forth while gently pulling it out. Putting it back in requires the same technique.

I had the same issue, sprayed WD40 while working them out.

Being a '40 Ford, if the dist is OEM type, it's the "diving bell" type. Been over 55 years since I had my hands on one of those! But I can remember they were a real PITA to rewire:eek:

You have the outer cover cap off the inner cap, right? It comes off by twisting it around a little while pulling straight out.

All of the external parts are available new......outer caps, inner caps, gaskets, the rubber boots, and the wires just like the original. The plastic caps can be broken or have fine cracks. So don’t fret if you see damage (previous or just inflected).
