`40 ford experts , headlight question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 36-3window, Sep 9, 2006.

  1. is there a source for a 6014 headlamp that doesn't have the alighment tabs? other than the expensive ones from Bob Drake. i'm trying to find some locally and have been to 7 different auto parts stores with no luck.

the last time i bought some for a `40 was about 8 years ago and Napa had them then.

can those tabs be ground off?

Finding headlight bulbs without the alignment pins is very difficult. You can sand of the tips with a rotary air sander and a fine coated disc. You should use water to cool the operation to prevent cracking the lens from over heating. The cooling is important so an electric sander is not a good idea. I've nipped them off with a fine stone on a grinding wheel before but the wheel must be trued and done slowly. A little clear will hide the dull spot.

I just took mine to the bench grinder and it worked perfectly. Just go slow and don't over heat the gl***. Those little nubs were gone in no time.:)

i run mine with the nubs..

however I too have heard that they can be sanded..

can you adjust the headlight rings?

the vintique instructions I had said the headlight doors could be "slightly bent"

  6. Heck, I just used a pair of pliers and broke mine off. Then hit the headlight with a 9" side grinder, dry. Zinged those babies right off.

Think I've been hangin' around with Bubba and Billy Bob too much.
