Hi kids I have a 37 ford frame and picked up a 40 juice pedal assembly.
this is a frame first project. no cab at this time.
what i'm wondering is the location of the pedal assembly.
I know that I have to drill new holes-open the x member.
Just not sure of the pivot location . also found out that I have a Merc brake pedal. bent to the left. thanks ML happy 4th

  2. I am doing the same thing, I have a section of '39 x-member where the pedal assy mounts I will be using as a pattern. The upper rear hole for the pedal mount is inline with the countersunk hole for the anti-chatter rod. I am going to use that a reference and then cross check from some other points to be sure.

I am also using a '40 Merc pedal assy; but there is no difference in pedal shape between the Merc pedals and another '40 Ford pedal assy I have.

I originally cut a section out of the Merc X-member to use as a pattern, seemed like a good idea until I found the flanges on the X-members channel faced the outside on Mercs and the inside on Fords.

I will get a couple of pictures in the morning that may help show this better.

The question is are you going to use this for an Auto trans application or std trans application. Autotrans with no clutch is Ok but the 40 or merc style pedals require a bell crank set up to use with a std trans. Its ok but requires a lot more moving parts. Before you get carried away because you bought the pedal assembly cheap, the best result would be to express what you are building engine/trans combo so that you dont run into additional problems down the line.

  4. Here's a couple of pictures.

The frame pieces are upside down in the pictures.

You can see where the one hole in the '40 bracket lines up with the tapered hole for the steady rod.

At first glance it looks like two of the holes from the mechanical pedal in the '37 frame are in the right spot; but if you measure them out they are about 1/4" or so off.

This placement would also be right for a '39 pedal assembly.

The other pictures shows my '40 Merc pedal next to a set of '40 Ford pedals, no difference I can tell, and the portion I can read of the part numbers on the pedals match too.

Thanks Rich-Dick The plan is auto trans I'm just looking for a basic location (pivot point) of the pedals. there is a cage nut on top of the x member in the general location. a distance from it would be ok. Or from the oval in the x member.
General distance from steering column (pedal arm) I will have to heat -bend the arm.
Thinking slight S bend to clear the X channel Thanks again ML

  6. Here's a couple of pictures. The cage nut you mentioned measure out to be in the same place on my '37 frame and on the '40 X-member. The round hole behind the pedal mount area measures to be in the same location also. I added dimensions from both on the picture.
