gonna be making some changes over the winter (p***enger car dashboard, heat and A/C) gonna be using the small vintage air unit, but from what i've seen it can get pretty busy under the dash. im looking to keep my cowl vent because when weathers right you cant beat the airflow and i like the cowl vent look. iwant to eliminate the cowl vent linkage mechanism and motorize it.. know there was a company making a kit for this, but havent seen it in awhile.... any ideas?
wow major brain fart guys...goggled motorized cowl vent and got julianos and watsons street works...holy **** i answered my own post... that should bring some interesting replies!
Man, I know what you mean. I think I gave myself a hernia from reaching down under the dash of my '36 pickup and extending the cowl vent. I like the picture of your truck in your avatar. It will be much more traditional and in accordance with the norms of this forum when you get rid of that nasty handle.
julianos $175? atson's $99? Rocky's $85 I would make sure it which ever one has enough power for your vent.
na tbird...just trying to make room under the dash for the duct work... tired of sweatin like a farm animal in the summer and freezing in the winter...yea i know the forum probably frowns upon these mods, but it really gets hot in there and at my ripe old age i need all the help i can get!
Here's an idea: use the electric mechanism from a big semi truck powered mirror. See if you can find one with broken gl*** in a bone yard or at a truck shop and pull the guts out. They power both ways and you know if they fit in a mirror ***embly they're not too big.
Yesterday I cut the whole cowl vent ***embley out of my 37 pickup. The drip rail pan that catches the water is in very rough shape as well as rusted out holes all the way around where the cowl vent closes . Eventually I'm gonna add AC and heat so my dilema is whether to fill in the hole or fab and repair the vent. Maybe an electric motor is the way for me to go also.
thats a tough decision,, love that cowl vent on those nice days,,but when its hot, its hot! either way you go,you've got some fab work with a bit of welding , grinding and hammer and dolly work followed by a skim coat of filler,,, like i said man thats a tough call
On my deuce 3 window the Auburn dash went under the dash rail so far that we had to use an electric vent. We found a motor from a Chrysler van that swings the rear window in and out. Made a linkage with some rod and small Heims, 2 way spring loaded switch, mounted the motor on the firewall, Bingo, vent goes up and down and has stops built in the motor.
great idea krylon thanks for the info....ok george g...good dig, but i gonna need all the room i can get under that dash while still trying to keep it traditional
I used the one from Mr. 40's Fatstuff because the stock linkage wouldn't clear the radio. It was for a p***enger car, so I'm not sure about a pick up. http://www.mr40s.com/Mr_40s_Products.html#Cowl_Vent
Just added a motorized cowl vent two weeks ago to my '34 Ford Coupe. Used a Julianos motor. It's a very simple project and only takes a couple of hours. <!-- / icon and ***le --><!-- message -->Don't know why I waited so long to make the change.
