Projects 40 Ford Sedan "The Varmit" IS DONE! Successfully completed a Reliability Run

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Dan Hay, Sep 6, 2012.

  1. These are 2" also. Only Corvette manifolds were 2.5"

I didn't use a crank mounted fan, rather I raised mine up about 2", used a 17" fan, and I have about 1" of clearance at the upper radiator hose.

  2. Exhaust is done! 12" Brockman Mellowtone steel packs, kickstand lakes used as tailpipes.

do the tail pipes make a U turn to connect to the kickstands? The video of it up on the rack made me curious

  9. Yeah Tim, the bend on the lakes is less than a 90 under the car. So there is a bit of a zig zag going on, I can get a pic tomorrow.

Awesome car and congrats on being on the road.

I can't remember if I've asked you before or not but are you related to a Chris Hay in Des Moines, IA. He did my pinstriping on my 47 and has a pretty rad 40 tudor. Just curious.

  12. Yep, he's my uncle! I was born in Des Moines. I might try to bring it up for GG in July.

  20. Thanks Jeff! Yep, despite a little vapor lock in traffic, it did great. I'm going to insulate the fuel line that runs in the engine bay, and put a 1/2 plastic spacer under the carb. I had 2 guys tell me edlebrock's are bad about vapor lock.

We limped the last 2 miles to the finish. After it cooled down it ran the 25 miles home no problem.

  24. Don't forget about the "unfailing" wooden clothes pin trick to cure vapor lock. [emoji12] I hope you can hear the sarcasm in that comment.

Love the car and love the stance that it has with the tires all stuffed up in the fenders.

Congratulations Dan! Your car sounds nice and looks awesome, and now it's driveable too. It sounds like a winner all the way around. Good work. Now go out and enjoy it.
