So purchased a bunch of 1940 ford items at a recent estate sale. I got a bundle of body trim and am trying to figure out what I want to keep for my 2 door sedan. My question is, is there a difference in the standard trim and the deluxe trim? I realize that the hood trim on the deluxe is longer.
I have been told that the standard trim is smooth and that the Deluxe trim is ribbed. In this group of trim I received I have ribbed trim that fits my standard hood, doors, and I/4 panels. The pieces that I am missing is the cowl trim and the piece that goes down the center of the hood. Is the center hood piece ribbed also on the standard?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated

I have decided to use the Standard hood and grille instead of the deluxe set I also have. Just like the look better.
Will soon be posting those parts along with the extra front fenders, Headlight buckets, Garnish moldings, body trim, running boards, tail lights, and things that I have extra to help fund the things I still need.

All 40 trim is ribbed. Deluxe and standard. Many confuse the 39 with a 40 and it does have smooth trim. In fact, I used 39 trim on my 40 because I like it better.

So nor6304 are you saying that the body trim on your standard is ribbed with the exception of the hood center which is smooth?

Is the center hood piece on your deluxe ribbed?

Finding good '40 stainless is hard nowadays. All the good stuff is on cars, so the bent up stuff is left over. If you aren't good at straightening the stainless yourself, the Bob Drake repro stuff is much more economical than having a pro repair the bent stuff.

If you have extra stainless you aren't going to use, I'd hold out selling it and first offer it for trade for the pieces you are missing. Every '40 Ford owner has a few extra pieces in the garage, and the cowl trims are the same on all cars.

I had forgotten about the std hood ctr strip being smooth. What pieces are you missing?

I need the center hood strip for a standard and the 2 cowl pieces. Is the any trim that goes on the front nose part of a standard hood?
