ok got a couple more questions? i have a model a frame and just purchased a 1/2 ton shortbed 40 ford truck front axle complete with brakes, spring, shocks, wishbones etc.... and also got the rearend from the same truck complete with spring, wishbones etc......... 1st question: is the 40 ford truck stuff the same as 40 ford car stuff??? 2nd question: are the brakes, backing plates, spindles the ones everyone uses on there model a's and 32's etc... 3rd question: i realize that the springs are in a different location on the front and rear! how and what do i need to do to put the rear spring on top of the rear axle????? i would like to use a reverse eye model t spring in the rear. 4th and final question: would i be able to just take the front brakes, backing plates, spindles etc.. off the 40 ford axle and attach them to a stock model a axle without modifications???? thanks for your help
I think the axles are the same physically between the car and 1/2 ton, spring are probably diffrent as are gear ratios etc. Brakes, spindles etc are the ones to use on a traditional Ford hot rod. You need weld on style spring perches to convert the rear to a spring on top style. Be VERY careful with welding the perches as it's easy to warp the axle housings, mine unfortunatley took two tris but the second attempt proved successful. I bought these factory made perches and pinched them to fit the smaller radius of my 36 diff.
