Hot Rods 40 ford Tudor

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Leon Sandcastle, Aug 1, 2014.

  1. My father has recently purchased a 40 ford Tudor (actual survivor hot rod from the late 50's) What would be the value of this car. Granted I am familiar with what someone will offer, just getting an idea for him. Body is solid and original. The V8 is a 283 with a 3 speed on column.

  2. You really need to post more photos of the body to get a good idea of the value. HRP

  3. It's all I have but no rust aside from a spot on the floor in the trunk.

Not going to opine on the value, but it sure is a cool old hot rod.

  6. People often say something is worth what you are willing to pay....and your dad just paid.;)

Take into account this is my opinion and I'm "Thrifty". As is 5K-7.5. Fix all the trim and make it a reliable driver with patina, maybe $12,000. Take to Gas Monkey Garage and they will get 35K for it.

  9. hahaha redo... he has profit as is, thanks!

  10. Two facts: Your dad has already purchased it (per your first post.) That means he has paid for it.
    2. You are familiar with what people will offer (also per your first post.)

So, you are not asking for what people will offer, but what they would pay, which is what sets values. And because your had has just done exactly that, I think my point is valid!

...even though I am just having a little fun.

So what did he pay?nice strait car it seems.

  13. I guess I really don't understand the point of your post. Your Father bought the car and must have paid what he felt was a fair price or he wouldn't have purchased it. Are you trying to value it for insurance purposes or to re-sell for a profit or are you just looking for affirmation that he didn't over pay for the car? The absolute only way to know what the car is worth is to offer it up for sale and see what some individual is willing to pay on a given day.

So many ask what a car is worth after they bought it. Yet won't tell what they paid. Actually it's immaterial.
I have a 1939 deluxe Ford coupe with 283 that's been sitting in my garage and now my shed since late 70's. It was a daily driver and, as they say, ran when parked. We all know it will take a lot to get it running again. I've jokingly told people I want $25,000 for it as it sits. I also know it's only worth want the craziest guy offers me.
It all amounts to who wants something more than you or others.
I'd pay your dad $7,500 right now for his 1940 2-door, as if I need another car. Truthfully that's why my 39 has been sitting. Always something else followed me home. So to answer your question your dad's car is worth $7,500.

  15. Model t.... that is a great answer! He is debating selling the car and wanted some idea of where to start, if he decides to sell it. I'm just trying to be a good son, much like many of us try to be.

Usually the back cap is rotten. You are lucky. Good starting point.

Leon you or your dad should fix that Ford up and enjoy it. It looks like a decent driver for cruise nights and running around. A 1940 Ford will always be popular and collectable.

  18. True... the guy who sold it said it was his moonshine hauler... actually kinda believe him

  19. .................................Every '40 Ford was a 'shine hauler and every small-block Chevy came out of a Corvette.

  20. Haha... actually he said it was from a wrecked Belair wagon. The rear spring has a few extra leaves, but otherwise it's stock minus interior.
