Strange post Dan. I checked out your home page and you are a self admitted "old SOB" so maybe you just forgot to finish your post. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt!
I might not be cl***ified as a purist. I got my '40 coupe in 1967, when I was fifteen. My '41 pickup came along in 1975. It isn't really a forty, but resembles one pretty closely. Seems unlikely I'll be disposing of either of them soon.
....Your '40, which by the way is beautiful, didn't happen to come out of East Tennessee in 1963 by any chance?.Thanks.
Happiness is a '40 Ford... There are two kinds of Rodders....you're either a Deuce guy or a '40 guy.. I'm proud to say I'm a '40 guy. (Now nobody get their feathers ruffled, I'm just having some fun and I do like Deuces too...some of them ) My Dad has owned his since 1999 and I've logged more miles on it than he has. If it ever comes to it, I'd sell my car to keep his in the family. Only picture I have of it right now, taken by a Hamber (I can't remember who) at the last pileup.
built my first 1940 model car when I was about 11....and still have the last one I built at 16 before I left home....just finished a 1940 metal kit for my great nephew and primed it like the 1939 real one I'm tryin' to get built....dam I wish I got a pic of that...
I loved my '39 deluxe coupe when I found it in a carport in Scottsdale in 1980 and bought it. I drove it from here in Phoenix to St.Paul when I was 15 to live with my dad. (Yup. did it without a license!) When I sold it in late '81 for 2850.00, I thought I was the king of the world! Had the extreme displeasure of watching the new owner roll it and completely destroy it a week later... Wish that one would have never left my side and have wanted another since.
Ok. I'll play. I've built at least 10+ 39-40 Ford scale models starting when I was 5 years old. Only a few survive. On the shelf: <a href="http://s4.photobucket.com/user/danhay/media/Model%20Cars/IMG_1213.jpg.html" target="_blank"></a> <a href="http://s4.photobucket.com/user/danhay/media/Model%20Cars/photo-14.jpg.html" target="_blank"></a> and in the garage: <a href="http://s4.photobucket.com/user/danhay/media/photo-10.jpg.html" target="_blank"></a>
As Pink sings in her latest song "Try" don't give up or let go just get up and try. Most all 40 lovers regret selling their dreams and are soon seeking another one. Even if you are ill you can always just sit in the garage and admire the beauty of a Henry's 40's. Here is my latest.
No, I bought it from a fellow named Bobby Rose Poughkeepsie, NY in 1963. At that time, it was the original factory Folkstone Grey. The original owner was Ira B. Relyea. Thanks for the good words.
Thanks for the response. I lost track of a black '40 Deluxe Coupe w/ Mercury rims in about 1963 that sold out of Newport, Tn. to somewhere in Florida for the princely sum of $500. I was only 13 yrs. old and living in Md. by then, but I was heartbroken when I found out about the sale during summer vacation.
I've had this one for a while now... Love it! I drive the wheels off of it! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I've always wanted one. Had a chance to buy this one when I was 16 but just couldn't raise the $2500 to get it. The one that got away.
my father always wanted one, he had a deal with my mom if see got a pool he would get a 40. He didn't live long enough to get himself a 40. Either my brother or I will have one as a memorial to our father.
I've messed up twice. First sold my flatty powered 39 deluxe coupe then my black 40 deluxe coupe (327/3x2's). If I ever can manage to get another one it will stay, I've learned my lesson. Blake
sold my 1st 40 sedan in 1972, in 2008 I bought another 40 standard 2dr sedan. almost done with it - rewiring it now then to gl*** shop, then upholstery. Its black with flames, white interior with red tuck/roll inserts, 305 sbc, 700R4, vintage air, cruise, power windows, & heated seats.
I'm half tempted to start a post like this, play dumb for 45 posts to get rid of my FNG status. Bad idea? I think yes With that said, this post has turned from a big "?" to a walk down memory lane
Its just some gold metal flake that a buddy had laying around and he added some pearl, dash and garnish trim are also the same color. Turned out great.
Its hard to give it up.????????????? Damned man. So upset and broken hearted ya couldn't tell us what was hard or what you were giving up. Must involve a 40 Ford. But I did enjoy the other posts. Even though my poor old 39' Ford deluxe coupe has been sitting all alone in the shed since the late 70's I hate to think about giving it up. Many think I'm stupid for not selling it cheap. And I am, but most already knew that. I don't even advertise it because I hate to see it go yet hate to see it slowly rotting away. At least mine is sitting and rotting inside. A car guys life is not an easy one.
I've always wanted a 1939 Deluxe or 1940 Standard Coupe, it was the first non-musclecar to catch my eye when I was growing up. What's the going rate on a non-running project?
I sold mine in a moment of temporary insanity . I bought a 1968 Chevelle SS and had the 40 coupe on blocks in the barn. A guy caught me off guard and I sold it. Knew I'd made a mistake even as he loaded it on his trailer. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Wish I knew then what I know now because I would have swallowed my pride , admitted I had made a mistake , and offered the guy compensation for his trouble ,and cancelling the deal.
hooked on 40's--11 have p***ed thru here since 02. One in my avatar is number 4 best I recall and has been done for quite a while--currently well into a 40 std coupe--hope to always have one around
