Quick question to those of you that may have the answer... I recently picked up a 40 Mercury coupe and it is missing the rear seat (and front one for that matter). Anyway, I know (at least I think I know) that the rear seat was different than the 40 Ford coupe seat. But, I am not sure if it is by chance the same as anything else? A buddy is looking at buying the seats out of a 41-48 Ford 2 door and the rear seat is pretty nice. Anyone know if that can work or be easily be made to work? This is kind of early for me to need a seat, but might be a good opportunity.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

I don't know Mercs, but I know Fords. And I know a 40 Ford coupe didn't have a rear seat. Some had two small fold down jump seats though. Totally uncomfortable except for a short trip.

I have acquired a seat from an old local hotrod 40 Ford coupe built in the 70's. It was a wraparound T-bird seat. Seems to be perfect for the rear of a 40 Ford coupe. Might be a good alternative for a 40 Merc too.

Thanks Jeff. I guess I also knew that Ford seats were the jump seats. So, that was one difference I have learned between the Ford and Merc coupes. :D I have considered a t-bird wraparound seat to be honest as well as an alternative since those can look cool in lots of applications.

Jeff, I have the rear seat out of my 40 sedan. Looks pretty close to that 40 Merc picture. You are welcome to borrow it to see it it fits or I can measure it for you.

Don`t get in a rush. People want to buy all the parts they can before the build begins. The right seat will present itself when the time comes. I`ve been working on a project for 5 years and still am missing some major parts.

Thanks Joe! I may take you up on that some time.

Yep, understood. The main reason I was asking about this was that my buddy was planning to buy a front and rear seat out of a 41-48 Tudor yesterday afternoon and didn't need the rear. He was wondering if I might go in with him if the rear would work. But, the seller on Marketplace sold it out from under him so problem solved other than being reminded how some folks sure don't have much integrity anymore when it comes to buying/selling... o_O

In my 41 Ford Coupe somebody put a back seat in there and it fits nicely but after I moved the front seat back about 4 in the there isn't much room back there except for a scrawny kid laying sideways.

You might have to alter the rear seat bottom anyways. There won`t be much headroom after you chop it.
