Hi guys Can anyone tell me the difference between a 1940 ford frame and a newer one, probably 42 or so? I got a line on a frame the guy says it is a forty, but the mounts about 85" back from the front are not there, and it looks like the body mounts are closer to the bottom of the frame and there are four of them,if it is a newer frame would the rails have the same profile horizontol ? Could I adapt these rails for the forty? They are in a1 condition and would like to use them. Any info or suggestions where i could view pics or specs greatly appreciated Thanks in advance Chris
Sounds like a later frame with low body mounts. The configuration is way different than the '35-'40 frames. I would keep looking for the right frame.
The years you are looking for are '35- '40. There are some minor differences, but the profiles will be the same, and will work under a '40.
35-40 are the same, 41-48 are the same, rail wise, but some mounts between the years will be different. 38-40 should be almost identical. Pat
If I remember right there are some differences in the front cross members on '39 Deluxe along with the '40 Standard and Deluxe as compared to '39 Standard and earlier.
Thanks for the info guys, I will get some pics and post them, I am still on the hunt for a peoper frame, by the way, this frame will be up for sale once i find out what it is. i believe if i dont find a frame soon I will be going the new rails route Chris
You guy's are much more in the know than I am, but just curious if the 41-48 Merc frames are basically the same as the Fords except for the longer wheelbase that I assume is made up forward of the firewall.
I have a picture of a 46 frame in the classified, check it to see the vast differnece in the later frames.
One of the differences is the wheelbase: Ford 1933 - 1940 : 112 " Ford 1941 - 1948 : 114 " Mercury 1939 - 1940 : 116 " Mercury 1941 - 1948 : 118 " Hennie
