I'm mocking up a '40 Ford banjo and rear spring in the new chassis for my T-bucket. Fiberglass body, flathead, T-5, etc.. Does anyone have any experience for a good baseline on the number of springs? I'm trying to figure out the final ride height. I've z'd the rear frame 10", and don't really want to go anymore than that. It's sitting on a pair of 29" tall 6.50 16, which is pretty close to the 7.00 16 I'm planning on running. Any help would be appreciated. Karl
Maybe this will help. Rear end weight probably isn't much heavier than your T. I'm guessing 100# or so more. SoCal main leaf, remainder - 40 Ford spring pack. Aside from the 40 main leaf being gone, the second and third leafs are removed. I'm guessing the third leaf - appropriately shortened will go back in because the rear end is getting raised a touch for street use. An aluminum shim (1/2 -1") may be installed between spring and crossmember pad. (The car started out to be a dry lakes car.) Low is nice, but I like practicality better. This car - 31 on 32 rails roadster - is lower than my 32 with it's rear coilovers, but the ride should be lots better due to more travel and a C'd & notched frame. 2nd pic shows how low the rear is now. It'll get raised 1 - 1 1/2" for a little more travel.
