I know someone knows how, so not wanting to reinvent the wheel I'll ask here. Here's the problem: 48-52 F1 steering box shaft has splines and no key, the 40 steering wheel has a key but no splines. How do I make it fit?
I just got this wheel and column jacket today... spent 4 hours in the pouring rain in a junk yard to get it.

In his book Mike Bishop used this combination on his AV8 but does not go into how to mate them.

    Thanks in advance,
    Don

This came up a couple of weeks ago. You might want to search for it. Good luck.

Sounds like a "Whack & Weld Job" to me. [IMG]

Cut each shaft, weld the top of the '40 to the f-100 shaft. Slide a sleave over the welded parts and tig the shaft to the sleave. That's how I did it. Good Luck, dirty dug

  5. I did the same thing that DirtyDoug did. However, I did drill the sleeve in 2 places. One at the bottom of the sleeve, thru the f1 shaft, and the other towards the top of the sleeve and thru the '40 shaft. I then drove roll pins thru both holes. This is probably over kill, but I feel safe with it.
