40 steering wheel on F1 column shaft?

I know someone knows how, so not wanting to reinvent the wheel I'll ask here. Here's the problem: 48-52 F1 steering box shaft has splines and no key, the 40 steering wheel has a key but no splines. How do I make it fit?
I just got this wheel and column jacket today... spent 4 hours in the pouring rain in a junk yard to get it.

In his book Mike Bishop used this combination on his AV8 but does not go into how to mate them.

Sounds like a "Whack & Weld Job" to me.

 

Cut each shaft, weld the top of the '40 to the f-100 shaft. Slide a sleave over the welded parts and tig the shaft to the sleave. That's how I did it. Good Luck, dirty dug

 

I did the same thing that DirtyDoug did. However, I did drill the sleeve in 2 places. One at the bottom of the sleeve, thru the f1 shaft, and the other towards the top of the sleeve and thru the '40 shaft. I then drove roll pins thru both holes. This is probably over kill, but I feel safe with it.
