Has anyone modified a tilt gm column to fit a 40 zephyr steering whee… is there an adapter? Any info will help thanks

  2. That steering wheel is way too classy for a GM column, but if you must, you can cut off the parts you need and weld them together. I don't think there is an adapter but I imagine if there were then it would add a lot of bulk to an already clumsy looking part.

Grant made a bunch of adapters for early Ford to GM columns....not sure if this will work..... Screenshot 2024-03-21 8.54.49 PM.png

The Grant kits are kits to put their wheels onto different columns, since their wheels bolt-on. I've never seen an adapter of any kind that would change one spline to another, or adapt a taper to a spline or vice versa. I can't even image how that would work.

Is there a legit need for the GM tilt column? It'd be much easier to change out the column for an early Ford piece than to try to modify the column or the wheel to accept the other.

Take a hole saw to the center of the GM wheel and cut out the splines with at least 1/4" all around. Cut the center out of the Zephyr wheel with a hole saw. Weld the GM center into the Zephyr wheel. To use a hole saw on the wheels drive a wood dowel into the splined center so the centering drill bit has something to grab onto. Make sure the center is clocked correctly before welding.
