Hey Wicked50Coupe, I will try the High Temp paint from Menards if I don't get the oven below up and working. Thought about putting some high temp powder coat on the header (supposively good up to 1000 F, though I am not really sure how hot the header will get without actually using an ir gun). It will be pretty dam sweet if I can get the truck on the road before they dump 3" salt on them. [/IMG] Old photo of the oven build... Oven gets up to 500 F with sheet metal acting as a door.. Too much stuff to do....
Most header paint is good to about 1200 and it still burns off in the bends. If you want to do something high tech ceramic coat is the only way to go. I know nuthing about the process but its about the only thing that is going to stay on.
If they just fit in the holes, but there's not a lot of space left, if the plugs are dished shape, ther're welsh plugs. There's a trick to expanding them in the hole, it can be under-done and over-done. Tap it in the center a bit. Not too hard. You want to hit it enough to spread it's dish shaped like a bowl, and the bottom of this bowl is what should be facing out. When you hit it in the center, it spreads the diameter of the plug. When it spreads, it pushes tightly against the sealing edges. I hesitate to tutor you on that, you really need to have somebody famaliar with welsh plugs to show you.
Nice looking work. I was never a fan of 223 sixes until I owned one now I wouldn't pull it for the world. As far as I know, there are no "drop in" mech/vac distributors to be had. The Dura-spark II can be modified but I have had good results running the stock distributor and carb combo with a Pertronix module. Good luck.
I painted mine with $10 a can "Thermotech" high temp paint that I ordered from summit, that crap blistered immediately. After I sanded all that off (came off in sheets), I used the Rutland. It has a nice satin look, I've had mine up to temp at least ten times now + once around 220 (blown fuse on elect. fan. - oops). A little dusty in this pic, but cleans up nice.
Well 14 hr work days are cramping my garage time.... and I hear that more parts have shown up at the door step... Anyone think that a 50 yr old harmonic balancer is ok to run as long as it hasn't slipped? And on that note anyone have a 223 balancer that is in good shape in case the one I have did? I have a 262 two belt balancer I could use in a pinch. Thanks guys,
Thanks for the advice and the extra pics. My mounts are still there but look like swiss cheese. I like the idea about the plate and tube, I was thinking about something like that as well. Keep up the great work.
