Anybody know what we gotta do to get my buddy's 52 Buick ready to place a 401 nailhead instead of the straight 8. will this work with the stock dynaflow? will we need an adapter plate or a new trans. We just saw a 401 at pomona and we're pondering about doing this. Can anybody give some info? Thanks!
I don't know if it can be adapted, but I'd guess a 401 will blow a dynaflow into pieces in a hurry. (And a '52 dynaflow is not exactly a great trans anyway - I had a '53 for a while and didn't like it much.)
I've seen the swap done, but using the automatic that goes with the 364/401. You may even get a later TH400 to bolt up to it, much better IMHO. Bob
There are gonna be some issues, you can use a 57-59 torque tube dynaflow for it, but I think you're better off converting it to an open driveline at this point. You have to re-engineer the rear suspension but will be better off in the ling run. You can the use a ST400 or SP400 with that 401.
