41 buick special engine

    hey i'm an FNG just picked up a 41 buick special tryin to find a straight 8 engine for it but noticed that there are many different types trying to find out what would work with it! thanks

    found a 40 buick engine a couple 48's and a 52.... everyone keeps givin me differnet answers

    You need the small engine in your Special. 248 or 263 will work.

    Any 248 cubic inch Buick straight eight from 1937 thru 1951 will work. However there is a motor mount difference starting about 1949. A 263 STICK SHIFT will also work, but the dynaflow equipped model has a different crank flange.

    The Roadmaster and Century 320 engines are about 4" longer than the 248/263, taller and heavier too, and the factory put heavier transmissions behind them, so they are not a good fit for your Special.
