look's like the 41 chevy coupe I bought needs a new eng. probly change entire drive line w/a 350 & a four speed , what is the easiest drive train to install inc. rear end ?
Easiest is a Chevy with auto trans, use a rearend out of a 55-57 Chevy, 70-81 Camaro, 82-up S10 4x4 (not 2 wheel drive), or some others. First two don't need anything moved to fit on the stock springs, just drill a hole in the perch for the off-center locator pins. Or you can put aftermarket springs in. Pretty sure you can buy mount kits for Chevy V8 and about any motor you want. Frame design is the same through '54 so stuff for the 49-54 cars can be adapted. Of course, a rearend swap leaves you with a 6-bolt front end and 5-bolt rear, but you can go to 51-54 car brakes to eliminate that, or unbolt the front end - yes, it unbolts - and put something else on there.
I used a Olds 425 and TH400 in mine but that is what I had. That was before everything was "available"
Thank's fella's, I have made some progress cleaning it up , still try'n to break it loose , hope to drive it as is before doing a swap, have almost six k in it with purchase tax and ***le, and it nogo yet hopefully the car is worth that ,. i see frame up resto's going for a good buck, but this was repaired and freshend up twenty trs. ago, a low budget redo, patch paint and interior , still looks nice , and aside from a small field mouse hole in headliner and some blisters in paint.....
I have a 46 Canadian Pontiac Coupe -so basically a Chevy to you guys, and it works great with a 327/Muncie 4 speed and 56 Chevy rear.
