Customs 41 chevy deluxe hardtop... missing ign. key

    so i just drug a new project home .all stock 216... no key . anyone know how to remove the ign. cylinder with -out butchering it DSCF6383.JPG id hate to use the dent puller . my normal m/o .has the original theft proof .wire shield . and i at least want to keep it in tact . thnx , bill

    If it's the original switch, I believe it is bolted in from the back of the dash.

    There were only 10 or so different keys back then for all the GM cars. Get a bunch of friends keys and try them all, one may fit.

  7. Any good locksmith can make you a key.
     
  8. if you have the glovebox lock, key should be same, take it to a locksmith to make a key.

Just removed the ignition switch from my '47 which should be the same- you need to remove the two knobs and cables next to the switch on the little plastic panel, one is the Choke and the other is the radio knob. The ignition switch is mounted on a separate panel which is held in place by the other 2 knobs. You may have to loosen off or remove the radio to completely drop this small mounting panel out from the back of the dash. ( My radio and choke were already out, so I worked all of this out by sticking a mirror back up there).
